My Dad used to have a book all about different dog breeds. It was meant as a guide for someone who wants to get a dog so they could know all about the different breeds and their temperament and health issues, etc. For whatever reason as a kid I loved flipping through it and learning all about the different dogs.. so one day I decided it'd be fun to have a book like that about cats.I do like this book. It has great pictures and a lot of information. I never knew there were so many breeds of cat! For the longest time I thought there was just one or two different breeds. The book talks about their heritage and a little about their temperament. It is fun to flip through and I have guests who occasionally go through it.What I don't love about it is that I really don't feel there is a lot of information. It's just short blurbs about the breeds, but doesn't talk about any in depth. The book doesn't say anything negative about any breeds which seems unrealistic to me. I want to be able to read and really feel like I know a lot about the cat, its fur type, temperament, potential health issues, life expectancy, etc. But it's pretty basic information.Do I regret buying this book? No. All in all it's pretty nice and the pictures are beautiful. But is it what I was hoping for? Meh.

Get this before you choose a cat. Each breed is so different. It is important to understand what you are paying for.

They have a nice verity of breeds shown, and good pictures of each breed. They spend most of their space describing cats colors, looks, and show requirements, but I found IF your lucky, maybe one short line of personality traits on how they blend with a family or other cats, or dogs. Was some what disappointed about that!

Bought this for my granddaughter as she loves cats. She is 10 and hopes to get a cat next year. She has read this book over and over picking which breed will fits well with her. Beautiful pictures of the cats and descriptions.

not as in depth as I had originally thought from the description of the book

This is the perfect book for a cat lover or anyone who wants information and photos on gorgeous cats.

I was hoping the descriptions of each of the cats would be more detailed as to their personalities. Oh well.

My 4-year-old daughter absolutely loved this book, she has been very interested in cats for a while and being able to see different breeds was fun for her.

Peter Keetman is a commercial and industrial photographer who has also published several books of landscape photography. In 1949, he was one of the original founders of the "fotoform" group of photographers, a predecessor of the international subjective photography movement. During the past several decades, he has had one-man shows in Germany and the United States. He lives and works in Breitbrunn-Chiemsee, Germany.
